FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions for Assisted Living at the Gardens on Quail

Is the facility secure and able to ensure resident safety?
The Gardens on Quail places a high value on safety and security for our residents.

We understand that choosing an assisted living community for your loved one is a big decision, and we take that responsibility seriously. That's why we've equipped each room and bathroom with a call-for-aid system, allowing residents to easily alert staff in case of an emergency along with a front desk and care team that is staffed 24/7.

We also provide a secure, heated courtyard for our residents, including those in Memory Care, to enjoy fresh air and socialize with friends and family. Our community is designed to make residents feel comfortable and protected.

In addition to safety, we believe in promoting an active and engaging lifestyle for our residents. Our Activity Director, Debbie Phillips, leads a variety of recreational activities and social events, giving your loved one the chance to make new friends, try new things, and enjoy every day to the fullest.
How private and comfortable are the rooms and what is the overall atmosphere of the facility?
At The Gardens on Quail, we offer a range of living options to accommodate the diverse needs of our residents. Choose from our 350 sq ft studio units, spacious one-bedroom apartments, or roomy two-bedroom units with a shared bathroom. Each unit is equipped with its own heating and air conditioning, providing a comfortable and personalized living experience.

Our units are arranged into eight "neighborhoods" across the facility allowing residents to form close-knit communities and foster a sense of belonging with only a short walk from their rooms. Each neighborhood features a full kitchen and a variety of activities, such as board games, snacks and books, to keep residents entertained and engaged.

Our first floor offers our community dining rooms (along with private dining rooms for family events) where residents can interact and dine together.
What is the cost of the facility and is financial assistance available?
We understand that the financial aspect of retirement living is a top concern for many families. To help ease this burden, we offer a level of care survey to help gauge the cost of care for your facility, and flexible month-to-month contracts to make the transition as seamless as possible.

Our knowledgeable staff is available to assist with navigating the financial aspects of assisted living, including private insurance options, and how to navigate asset drawdowns. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help make the process of choosing the right level of care for you and your loved one as stress-free as possible.

What are the Colorado State requirements for Assisted Living facilities?
In Colorado, assisted living facilities must follow state regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. Here's what you need to know whether you are here at Gardens on Quail or any qualified facility:

Written Service Plan: Each resident in an assisted living facility must have a written care plan reviewed at least once a year. The plan should be based on a thorough assessment of the resident's health, behavioral, social and physical needs and strengths. It should also indicate if the resident can self-administer medication or requires staff assistance, any restrictions on activities, and dietary needs.

Admission Requirements: Facilities cannot admit residents who are consistently and completely incontinent, bedridden with limited potential for improvement, in need of 24-hour skilled nursing care, suffering from acute substance abuse, or have a communicable disease or need restraints. Existing bedridden residents can continue living in the facility if there is enough trained staff, licensed hospice, physician-outlined care, and meeting physical, social, and emotional needs. A resident who needs hospice care cannot be admitted, but long-term residents can receive hospice care if the facility's staff is trained and won't affect other residents' care.

Scope of Care: Assisted living facilities must provide supervision, protective oversight, and a safe and sanitary environment. The facilities must offer assistance with daily living, transportation, socializing and recreation opportunities, three meals a day and snacks, and encourage residents to help with meal planning. Therapeutic diets may be offered if ordered by a physician.

Medication Management Regulations: Staff assisting with medication administration must complete an approved course or competency test given by licensed professionals such as a nurse, physician, or pharmacist, or pass an approved competency test. A QMAP may administer medications, but not via injection. A copy of the QMAP certificate must be kept on file and a competency test must be taken every five years.

Staffing Requirements: Each facility must have a full-time administrator, one QMAP and one staff member with current adult first aid certification on-site at all times. The minimum staffing ratios for non-Medicaid facilities must be determined by the facility, with enough staff members to provide adequate care for residents' scheduled and unscheduled needs.

Staff Training Requirements: Administrators must complete 30 hours of training covering topics such as residents' rights, fire safety, nutrition, identifying and addressing challenging situations and behaviors, and personal, social and emotional needs of residents, including medication management, chronic illnesses, and end-of-life care. Staff members must receive relevant job training or experience, first aid and injury response, medication administration, and facility-specific training. Within one month of employment, they must receive training on assessment skills, health emergency response, and handling difficult situations.

Background Checks: Owners and administrators must undergo a fingerprint background check, with owners responsible for conducting criminal background checks on administrators. All staff, including permanent staff, volunteers, and contract staff must have criminal background checks.

Reporting Abuse: In Colorado, everyone employed by an assisted living facility is a mandated reporter and must report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation to local law enforcement.
