This August, the residents of Gardens on Quail enjoyed a slice of farm life right in our own backyard. We had the pleasure of shucking fresh corn delivered straight from the Oschner family farm. The event was not just a prelude to a delicious meal prepared by Chef Melissa and her team but also a wonderful opportunity for community engagement and sharing stories of agricultural heritage.
A Hands-On Experience
Residents gathered around in our central lobby, rolling up their sleeves and diving into the task of shucking. The rhythmic sounds of husks being peeled back mixed with residents’ laughter and chatter, creating a lively atmosphere that energized everyone involved.
From Farm to Table
Chef Melissa explained the journey of the corn from farm to table, emphasizing the importance of supporting local farms and enjoying seasonal produce. As residents worked, she shared tips on cooking corn and discussed various recipes that would later transform our freshly shucked corn into a gourmet treat for dinner.
The Joy of Sharing
Shucking corn together not only brought back memories for many of our residents who recalled their own experiences with gardening and farming but also fostered a sense of accomplishment. There’s something truly satisfying about preparing food that you've had a hand in harvesting.
Culinary Celebrations
The fruits of our labor were soon enjoyed by all, as Chef Melissa and her team served up the freshly cooked corn at dinner. The sweet, buttery flavor of the corn was a testament to the freshness of the produce and the skill of our kitchen team. The meal was a hit, with residents complimenting the chef and her team for the delicious preparation that highlighted the natural sweetness of the corn.
Grateful for Nature's Bounty
Events like these are a delightful reminder of the simple pleasures of eating well and sharing a meal. We are thankful to the Oschner family farm for providing us with such high-quality produce and to our residents and staff for participating in this joyful summer activity.
